I had the cheese ale soup and was extremely disappointed. The burger was cooked just how I like with with great flavor. The pickles were good which is a big plus for me, and I finished all the fries which let's you know that it was good. It isn't just a 14-letter word We're serious about our role as conscientious business owners, constantly looking for ways we can be better stewards of our environment. To eat, I've only ever had fries here; Vladimir Poutine is amazing.
The pretzel croutons were really hard and just didn't work well with the soup. After flying back into town Sunday morning I went to HopCat for brunch. I'm a fan of HopCat. The Cider Boys Grand Mimosa! As someone always looking for a deal, I recommend checking out their loyalty program. But the menu was dubious and the quality rather pedestrian. The first night was a party of 5 and the second night was a larger party. Even though it seemed crowded, we were seated immediately.
And both go great with a craft beer or two. It pains me to write this review as I used to really enjoy HopCat. May be too noisy for families, and definitely too noisy to conduct business - the crowd is lively and loud. It was a Sunday night so the restaurant and bar wasn't too busy. From what I can tell, Hopcat is a very popular joint for Yelpers and I can see why. My encounters were brief and I dined there as quickly as possible without issue. It's also close to a few spots along Bardstown Rd, which is nice when people don't feel like staying in the same spot.
The food was fabulous - we had the grilled cheese not your everyday grilled cheese and the Super Royale. But some other favorites are their wings and mac n cheese. Loved the addition of the pickled onions and marinated tomatoes. It was obvious HopCat had put a lot of thought and work into perfecting it's seasoning mix. Every once in a while, it's a beer you never would have ordered but for the fact that your server or bartender suggested it. The fries with an edgy name, referencing the notoriously addictive illegal drug, are the gastropub's most popular food.
Give one of our new healthier vegetarian menu items a try. If you like draft beer, you'll enjoy this place. I'm a member of a local vegan Facebook group and had seen some people mention this place since they had added the Impossible Burger to the menu. If you believe I have not please let me know. Service was great from start to finish. But the past 2 visits are enough that I would not return.
They were actually featured on Food Network. My advice is to stick to their beer even if the selection is more limited. As you know, I am a huge fan of beer. Took my grandparents here for their birthdays a few weeks back. The restaurant is pretty roomy with a lot of space to spread out - there's a large bar in the main room and a front eating room. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to know that. The Reuben Kincaid looks like your classic Reuben.
